MK Air Base Romania is a military airfield located in the town of Campia Turzii, Cluj County, in the northwestern part of Romania. It was originally built in 1938 and was used by the Romanian Air Force during World War II.
After the war, the base was used for civilian and agriculture purposes until 1952 when it was taken over by the Soviet Union as a military base. One of its primary uses under Soviet control was as a training base for pilots and Technicians.
Following the fall of the Soviet Union, the base was returned to Romanian control in 1999. Since then, it has undergone major modernization and expansion, including the construction of a new control tower, runway extension, and installation of modern navigation and communication equipment.
Today, the base is home to the 71st Air Base of the Romanian Air Force and hosts regular training exercises, such as NATO's "Dacian Eagle" exercise. It is also used as a forward operating base for NATO air policing missions in the region.
